Dry Needling
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that involves inserting thin needles into specific trigger points in muscles to alleviate pain and improve muscle function. It can be used to treat various conditions such as chronic pain, muscle tightness, and sports injuries.
About Dry Needling
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used to alleviate pain and promote healing. It involves the insertion of thin, solid needles into specific trigger points or tight muscles in order to release tension and improve muscle function. Unlike acupuncture, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine, this form of treatment focuses on the musculoskeletal system and targets specific areas of pain or dysfunction.
How Dry Needling Works
Shown to be very effective, this treatment stimulates the body’s natural healing response. When a needle is inserted into a trigger point or tight muscle, it causes a local twitch response. This twitch response helps to relax the muscle fibers, increase blood flow, and reduce inflammation. Additionally, the insertion of the needle can also stimulate the release of endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving chemicals produced by the body.
This form of treatment can be beneficial for a variety of conditions, ailments, and injuries, both chronic (long-term) and acute (new). Some common conditions that can be alleviated with dry needling include:
- Muscle pain and spasms
- Tension headaches
- Strains and Sprains
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Neck and back pain
- Joint pain
- Sciatica
- Tennis elbow
- Fibromyalgia
- Sports injuries
At Brown Chiropractic, we may recommend this treatment as part of a comprehensive plan for our patients, often in combination with other therapies such as spinal adjustments, stretching exercises, and soft tissue manipulation to provide optimal results. Dry needling has been shown to effectively address musculoskeletal issues and help achieve long-lasting pain relief and improved mobility.
